BORDERS FOUNDATION

OUR MISSION

Our mission at the Borders Foundation is to promote and celebrate the diverse artistic voices of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) and LGBTQ artists. We believe that every artist deserves equal representation and recognition in the arts community, and we are dedicated to creating a platform that empowers and uplifts artists from historically marginalized communities. Through exhibitions, performances, workshops, and other events, our goal is to increase visibility for BIPOC and LGBTQ artists, foster cross-cultural connections, and inspire positive social change. We strive to create a world where all artists can freely express themselves and have their voices heard.

Borders Foundation Statement for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

We recognize that race, gender identity, socio-economic status, and sexual orientation are all factors in an artist’s ability to obtain gainful and equitable employment. The more we do to present the creative work of these artists to a larger audience, the stronger our artistic community will be.

The Borders Foundation honors this commitment by our focus on the following areas:

  • Contracting musicians, artists, and other culture bearers that have been historically underrepresented;

  • Hiring a diverse event staff;

  • Presenting cultural programs to fundraise for underserved populations; and

  • Contracting local minority and/or LGBTQ+ businesses.
